Crystal Palace supporters were left stunned after Tottenham made a last-ditch £70million move to sign Marc Guehi on deadline day.

Sky Sports claimed that the North London side have made a big-money move as they look for a solution to their defensive injury crisis, but it was swiftly turned down.

Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and more recently Radu Dragusin have all suffered injuries, leaving Ange Postecoglou short of options for cover in defence.

As a result, they have turned their attention to the Palace and England centre-back in a late attempt to find cover for a key position.

Guehi, 24, remains a crucial player under Oliver Glasner after the Eagles rejected a £70million bid from Newcastle just six months ago.

After Trevoh Chalobah was recalled by the Blues and Chadi Riad suffered a cruciate ligament injury, Palace's options at the back are too limited to let Guehi leave at this stage.

However, Palace fans were left stunned by the size of Tottenham's bid, with many suggesting they should have taken the money given his contract situation.

Others, however, insisted Guehi is far too important to let go at this stage.
