Crystal Palace plan to accept new Eddie Nketiah offer - 'He's not good enough'

Crystal Palace are prepared to accept an offer for Eddie Nketiah this summer amid doubts about his long-term role under Pierre Sage.

The 27-year-old joined Palace for a fee of £25million in 2024, but his spell has been hampered by runs of poor form and large spells on the sidelines through injury.

Meanwhile, Jean-Philippe Mateta's excellent form and the big-money arrival of Jorgen Strand Larsen have forced him further down the pecking order at Selhurst Park.

As a result, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Palace are prepared to let Nketiah leave as they believe he is "not good enough".

While any departure will need to be on good terms for the Eagles financially, they will not stand in his way should an acceptable offer arrive in the near future.

This comes after Crystal Palace were primed to accept a £27million offer from West Ham in January, before an unfortunately timed injury put an end to the Hammers' pursuit.

What is next for Eddie Nketiah at Crystal Palace?

Brown first told Football Insider in January that Crystal Palace have concerns about Nketiah and were prepared to let him leave even before Strand Larsen's arrival.

Nketiah struggled to make an impact under Oliver Glasner's management, and while he may be given pre-season to impress Sage, there are doubts about his place in the squad.

The former Arsenal man has scored just 11 goals in 56 appearances for the Eagles, and should an acceptable offer arrive this summer, they are open to letting him go.

"I've had my doubts about Eddie Nketiah, I don't think he's good enough, and from what I'm told, Palace don't either," Brown told Football Insider.

"He hasn't had anywhere near the desired impact at Palace, he hasn't scored an abundance of goals, and when he's played he struggles to impact the game.

"Plus, he's had so many injury issues it's been hard for him to challenge for a place in the team. Overall, it's been a really poor spell for him.

"When you look at Palace's squad, you've got Mateta in there who might move on but there is a chance he'll stay, and then you've got Strand Larsen who signed in January.

"So Nketiah, at the moment, is their third-choice striker and it's going to be hard for him to work his way into the manager's plans, even if he has a good pre-season.

"If a good offer comes in for him, I think it'll be tough for Palace to make back the money they spent, but they'll be ready to let him move on and then they can look elsewhere."

How will Nketiah's future impact Jean-Philippe Mateta?

Speculation surrounding Nketiah's future at Selhurst Park comes alongside growing doubts about Mateta and whether he will remain a Crystal Palace player.

The France international came close to leaving Palace in January before his late move to AC Milan fell through due to lingering concerns about a knee injury.

However, Football Insider revealed on 14 June that Crystal Palace are open to offers for Mateta, who has just one year remaining on his contract with the South London club.

It will still take a decent fee to prise him away, though, with the Eagles not willing to sell a key player on the cheap regardless of the threat of losing him for free.

After scoring the goal to win Crystal Palace their first ever European trophy, Mateta remains highly thought of, and they are prepared to let him contract run down for another season.
