Frank Lampard: Coventry 'confident' of blocking exit after Crystal Palace news
Frank Lampard is increasingly likely to stay at Coventry City ahead of next season despite strong interest from Crystal Palace.
The Eagles hold lampard in high regard and had considered a move to lure him away from the CBS Arena in their efforts to replace Oliver Glasner.
However, a lofty release clause included in his Sky Blues contract is set to make any approach difficult, as Coventry have no plans to lose their manager this summer.
Former Coventry assistant manager Mick Brown told Football Insider that Lampard is now unlikely to leave and will be allowed to continue his ambitious project.
Crystal Palace will be forced to move on to other targets, with multiple big names on their radar, as Coventry step up plans to back Lampard in the market.
What is Coventry's stance on losing Frank Lampard?
Football Insider revealed in April that Coventry want to block Lampard from joining Palace and had no plans to allow their manager to move on this summer.
With a now growing likelihood that the boss will continue his positive work at the CBS Arena, their sights have been set on a positive summer.
Palace, meanwhile, are closing in on their next manager appointment after deciding that landing the Coventry boss would be difficult due to the finances involved.
"Lampard has done a fantastic job for Coventry," Brown told Football Insider.
"It's not surprise a club like Palace were interested, because they've played some good football and dominated the Championship under his management.
"Palace want to continue the success they've had under Glasner, they're looking at a few candidates they think they can do that.
"But it looks like there are names ahead of Lampard in their sights, so Coventry will be confident they can keep hold of him. They were never going to let him go easily."
Who will become the next Crystal Palace manager?
Despite seemingly moving on from their pursuit of Lampard, Palace still have a number of top targets in their sights to step in and replace Glasner.
Replacing a manager who lifted three trophies in two years at Selhurst Park will not be an easy task, but progress is now being made towards an appointment.
Football Insider revealed on 1 June that Pierre Sage is Crystal Palace's top target, and the RC Lens boss would be keen on taking over at Selhurst Park.
Talks are currently being held between the two parties, will there have been negotiations with his club to work out a reasonable compensation fee.
Sage led Lens to a second-placed finish in Ligue 1 and success in the Coupe De France, leading to suggestions he could be the perfect replacement for Glasner.
