Sources: Crystal Palace 'concerned' about Pierre Sage sack decision

Crystal Palace are concerned that they would be making a “rash decision” by sacking manager Pierre Sage, sources have told Football Insider.

The Eagles’ new boss is under pressure amid a poor start to the new Premier League season, but the club hierarchy do not view it in that way.

Steve Parish and Co. are satisfied with the job that the Frenchman is doing at the helm, and are prepared to give him the time needed to get things right. 

Sources say there is a feeling behind the scenes that the international break has come at the “worst time” for Sage, given the fact that the team were just starting to find form.

Palace had lost just one of their last five games in all competitions prior to the break, and also kept clean sheets in three of those games. 

Sage is completely unproven outside France, and Palace are prepared to give him the time he needs to adapt properly to his new environment.

Sage is taking his first steps in English football, and the board are not prepared to make a snap decision regarding his future just yet. 

There is a feeling at Selhurst Park that the team’s challenging start was partially due to a series of other issues at the club, rather than just Sage’s issues alone.

The South London outfit’s American owners are currently trying to sell the club, while there was also major turnover in the playing squad in the summer. 

Maxence Lacroix and Daniel Munoz both represented key departures for the Eagles, who are not blessed with a huge budget to spend on replacements.

There is also discontent within the camp from the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta and Ismaila Sarr, which Sage must continue to monitor with both care and caution moving forward.

Crystal Palace accelerating Tyrick Mitchell talks

Football Insider revealed on Monday that Palace are accelerating their bid to tie left-back Tyrick Mitchell down to a new contract at Selhurst.

The 27-year-old is out of contract with the Eagles next summer, and has recently been subject to interest from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.

However, Palace are now ready for talks over extending Mitchell’s stay with his boyhood club, and are hoping to reach an agreement in the coming weeks.

The defender has already made over 250 appearances in Palace colours, and the club are hoping that there will be many more to come.
