Crystal Palace left ruining their worst transfer failure in years after Alieu Njie latest
Crystal Palace’s inability to get the signing of Alieu Njie over the line could be the club’s biggest transfer error in years.
The Eagles were heavily linked with the 21-year-old winger throughout the summer transfer window and reportedly offered a loan deal with a conditional loan-to-buy, with the total package being worth £15.5million.
However, this was not enough to get the deal done, and the Sweden international would eventually move to Fiorentina on loan.
It has not taken long for Njie to find form at his new club, and he put in an excellent performance in the 4-2 victory over Venezia on Friday.
The winger managed to pick up an assist and was sensational in the Serie A clash.
Now, with Palace in need of a new winger, the club have potentially made a costly mistake by not signing the youngster.
How good was Alieu Njie vs Venezia?
Against Venezia, Njie was excellent.
The winger was one of the most creative players on the pitch and caused all sorts of problems for the opposition.
According to Fotmob on 12 September, he completed 80 per cent of his passes, had three shots, two of which were on target, had a 0.51 xG, created three chances, had a 0.74 xA, completed all three of his attempted dribbles and had eight touches inside the opposition box.
Given that he is only 21 years old, these are excellent stats, and they are likely to improve further in the future.
Therefore, Palace failing in their pursuit of the winger seems like a massive missed opportunity, and one that they will certainly regret in the future.
Could Ismaila Sarr still leave Crystal Palace this month?
Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Crystal Palace have ruled out selling Ismaila Sarr.
This is despite interest from the Saudi Pro League, with their transfer window open until mid-October.
Crystal Palace are not considering selling Sarr without the ability to land a replacement.
Therefore, with the English transfer window now closed, it seems extremely unlikely that Sarr will be sold.
However, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the winger at Selhurst Park over the coming weeks.
