Crystal Palace make move to hijack Trevoh Chalobah deal

Crystal Palace could hijack Como's move for Trevoh Chalobah after joining the race to sign the Chelsea centre-back.

The south London club are long-term admirers of the 27-year-old, who appears increasingly likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

Italian side Como have already seen two bids rejected for the England international, with Chelsea demanding in excess of £30million, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Cesc Fabregas' side are also now considering other options, which has left the door ajar for Palace to potentially swoop in.

With Maxence Lacroix closing in on a move to Chelsea, Pierre Sage and Co. need a replacement, and may yet be able to steal a crucial edge in the race for Chalobah.

Time is running out for them if they are to secure his signature, but England boss Thomas Tuchel may have inadvertently handed them fresh hope.

Trevoh Chalobah will be keen to avoid Fikayo Tomori repeat

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on Sunday that Palace have held talks with Chelsea over a potential move for Chalobah.

The South London outfit had the defender on loan for part of the 2024-25 season, but could soon land him permanently, with his Chelsea exit looking likely.

Chalobah was part of England's squad at this summer's World Cup, and Tuchel's decision to name him in the 26-man squad may aid Palace's cause.

The Three Lions group can sometimes be difficult to break into when playing abroad, and it is certainly possible that it could put Chalobah off a move away from the Premier League.

Having had a taste of the national team setup of late, he will surely be desperate to ensure that he is part of the group for the 2028 European Championships.

Moving away from the Premier League spotlight could potentially harm that cause, as has been the case for Fikayo Tomori in recent years.

Chalobah will want to avoid becoming forgotten in Serie A, and that could sway him towards Palace if the Eagles were to firm up their interest.

Nottingham Forest ready offer for Jean-Philippe Mateta

Brown also told Football Insider earlier this week that Nottingham Forest are ready to make an offer for striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, if they believe Palace are willing to sell.

Oliver Glasner's side remain big admirers of the Frenchman, but are only prepared to move for him this summer if they feel a quick deal can be done.

However, Brown believes that the Eagles are not keen to lose a key part of their side, despite Mateta being out of contract in June 2027.

The club are set for a big transition as they enter the sage era, and they are keen to ensure that some level of continuity remains in the squad.
