Kieran Maguire makes Crystal Palace transfer claim after confirmed £82m news

Patrick Viera has already spent a “chunk” of a recent £82million Crystal Palace cash injection over the summer transfer window.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest accounting developments at Selhurst Park.

Documents posted to Companies House on 3 November show that Palace have allotted 696,000 shares at £118 per unit, generating £82m for the club.

The share issue is formal confirmation of American businessman John Textor’s investment in the club back in August.

The Eagles spent £66m over the summer as newly-appointed Viera went about implementing a drastic squad revamp.

A total of 11 players meanwhile, including a bevvy of first-team stars, left the club upon the expiry of their contracts.

Maguire suggests that some of Textor’s investment will have already gone towards financing Viera’s transfer drive.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “The manager will have already spent a chunk on those transfers over the summer.

“Although, the deals to sign those players will have been on instalments, so not all of it will go out in the form of cash.

“But it has certainly helped Patrick Viera to shape the team in the way he wants it to go.

“Remember, there are also quite a few players who departed at the end of their contracts at the end of last season.

But for a small club such as Crystal Palace, investment such as this certainly helps a great deal.”
