Crystal Palace must be concerned about Jaydee Canvot’s future after West Ham masterclass

Crystal Palace should be fearful of a summer exit for centre-back starlet Jaydee Canvot after his outstanding performance against West Ham.

Canvot was at his dominant best as Palace played out a goalless draw against the Hammers at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

The 19-year-old has had to bide his time to become a key man for the Eagles since joining from Toulouse last summer, but is now a regular starter in Oliver Glasner’s back three.

He was viewed as a real coup for Palace as they beat some strong competition to his signature, and has already been linked away from South London ahead of this summer.

It remains to be seen if a bigger club comes in for Canvot ahead of next term, but the Eagles will surely be getting more nervous about his future with each passing week that he shines in their backline.

Jaydee Canvot was Crystal Palace’s best player against West Ham

Canvot was limited to just one league start for Palace before Marc Guehi departed for Man City in the January window.

He has since come into their starting eleven and barely been out of it, with starting berths in each of the Eagles’ last 11 games across all competitions.

He was imperative to the preservation of their clean sheet against the Hammers on Monday, with more duels won than any other home player and two last-man tackles to stop Taty Castellanos in either half.

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri revealed last month, via X, that Canvot has been attracting attention from top clubs across Europe, and a record sale for Palace cannot be ruled out this summer.

They want to keep hold of the Frenchman, but an exit may be impossible to stop if he continues to display his quality every week at just 19-years-old.

Glasner has told top clubs why they should sign Canvot

It is set to be a real summer of change at Palace as Glasner leaves and several key stars potentially follow him out of the club.

The Austrian was keen to sign Canvot last summer, and he heaped praise on his abilities in November after handing him a maiden Premier League start.

He said: “I see him in training, what he can do. We see he has all the hardware you need as a centre-back. He has pace, he’s tall. He’s comfortable in the build-up.

“That’s why we signed him and now it’s for him, giving him time, step by step, helping him to become the best Jaydee he can be.”

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider last month, Keith Hackett slammed Canvot for the way he celebrated Gabriel Gudmundsson’s red card in their draw with Leeds.

Palace will hope that his lack of experience and immaturity are what stand in the way of a possible move away this summer, but they seem like the only reasons why a top club won’t come in for him in the next few months.
