Crystal Palace next manager: Gareth Southgate new favourite as odds tumble

Crystal Palace are on the hunt for Oliver Glasner’s replacement, with Gareth Southgate continuously linked.

The Austrian is set to leave at the end of the season once his contract expires at the club.

As a result, the Eagles are in need of a replacement, and Southgate is yet to be ruled out of a return to Selhurst Park.

Now, a summer switch looks more likely than ever at 3/1, with Oddschecker on 22 April confirming that he is the favourite for the role after his odds were slashed.

Southgate has been out of work since he left the England job in 2024, but could now be in line for a shock Premier League return.

Gareth Southgate to Crystal Palace would be risky

Southgate was a controversial figure towards the end of his England reign after failing to deliver a trophy.

While there is no doubt the squads’ performance dramatically improved, he appeared to hit an in-pass at the final hurdle.

Now, with Palace linked to the 55-year-old, it would be a massive risk to green-light a return, after he previously played for the club.

Southgate has not managed domestic football since 2009, and arguably failed at England towards the end of the job.

Therefore, appointing him to continue Glasner’s work, who could leave the Eagles with three trophies, would be a big ask.

However, Southgate knows the club and has worked with some of the best players in world football. Therefore, there is every chance he could be a massive success.

Who else is linked to the Crystal Palace job?

Following Southgate, Thomas Frank is the second-favourite at 4/1.

The Dane is out of work after being sacked as the Tottenham Hotspur manager earlier this season.

Andoni Iraola is also in the mix at 5/1, with the AFC Bournemouth boss set to leave his position at the end of the season.

Roger Schmidt is yet to be ruled out at 6/1, while Robbie Keane remains an outsider at 10/1.

However, it remains to be seen who Palace look to appoint in the summer, as they look to push up the Premier League table, and potentially have another successful European campaign if they can win the Conference League.
