'Daniel received an offer last week' - Poch jokingly responds to Tottenham-Alderweireld reports

By Richard Parks
Mauricio Pochettino has played down speculation about Toby Alderweireld’s future at Tottenham by claiming that chairman Daniel Levy “received an offer last week”.
The Spurs manager insisted there are always “lots of rumours’ at such a major club with top-level players as he fielded questions from journalists early on Tuesday afternoon about the future of the Belgium international.
Alderweireld, 28, will miss Wednesday’s FA Cup fourth-round replay clash due to a hamstring injury that kept him out of the weekend Premier League win against Crystal Palace.
But it was the subject of the player’s future rather than fitness that is particularly topical in both the media and among the supporters amid speculation he could quit in the summer window due to a contract stalemate.
“Theres lots of rumours, not only about him – about all the players, the manager,” said Pochettino at the media conference, as quoted by Spurs journalist Ben Pearce on his personal Twitter account. “I think Daniel received an offer last week too.”

The Times claimed last Friday that talks between Spurs and the defender over a new deal have reached a deadlock and that manager Pochettino has now given the green light to sell Alderweireld, who turns 29 on Friday, in the summer.
This has prompted a social media outcry from fans, who hold the Belgian in huge regard due to his form in the recent seasons since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2015.
His partnership with countryman Jan Vertonghen at the back has been central to Tottenham’s transformation into a Premier League title challenger and Champions League club.
In other Tottenham news, it can be revealed the club are working on deals to sign up FIVE players, with three agreements virtually nailed on.
