Danny Mills has had another dig at Newcastle United attacker Miguel Almiron and named him in his Premier League team of worst performers this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England international has been a regular critic of the January signing.
Mills says he “understands” why Magpies love Almiron’s work ethic but insists his lack of end product is a huge concern for such a major signing.
The attacking midfielder has failed to score in 26 matches since his £20million arrival and has only registered a single assist, which came in the recent 2-2 draw against Manchester City.
Asked by Football Insider to name his team of worst performers in the Premier League so far this season, Mills included Almiron as one of three midfielders.
“I know he works incredibly hard and Newcastle fans love him for his work rate,” Mills explained. “You’re a midfield player and you work hard…that’s mandatory.
“In terms of creating chances, scoring goals…what is it, one assist? He has finally got one.
“It’s not really enough, working hard is great and I understand Newcastle fans love him for that but we need to see start seeing him doing better as when you consider £20m…you expect a little bit more.”
Almiron has nonetheless started all 16 of Newcastle’s Premier League matches this season and been a key player in Steve Bruce’s revitalised side.
In other Newcastle United news, it can be REVEALED that Steve Bruce has given the green light to January exit of Rafa regular.
