Danny Mills says that Marcelo Bielsa will have some “questions to answer” after seeing a number of his Leeds United players impress while on international duty.
The former Leeds and England full-back, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that the likes of Eddie Nketiah and Ezgjan Alioski will have the Argentine boss scratching his head in the build-up to Sunday’s game with Barnsley.
Nketiah netted twice for England’s under-21 side in their clash with Turkey, receiving his first call-up in a year after his impressive start to life at Elland Road.
Mills says that recent developments on the international stage will have Bielsa pondering who would be best to take on the Tykes, with Leeds having had two weeks to stew over their 1-0 defeat to Swansea City.
Mills told Football Insider: “I think Marcelo Bielsa will have some questions to answer when everyone comes back from the international break but that’s what you want, competition for places.
“Everybody wants to play, everybody wants to be in the first-team and that’s what raises the levels of everybody else’s play. There’s not an awful lot between them.
“At the moment, Bamford’s got the jersey, if he continues to score and play well, he’ll keep it. When Nketiah gets his chance, he’s got to take it.”
Bamford has started every one of Leeds’ Championship fixtures this season, scoring four goals, with Nketiah forced to watch on from the sidelines and try to make an impact from the substitutes’ bench.
He has netted three goals in his five games across all competitions, two of those strikes coming in the League Cup, while he was handed half an hour of action against Swansea – his longest runout in the league to date.
In other Leeds United news, Darren Bent has warned one Elland Road star about a “powerful” rival he needs to be careful of.
