Danny Mills has questioned why Joey Barton decided to move to Rangers from the newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley.
Midfielder Barton is currently suspended by the Scottish club, following an incident after the 5-1 hammering by rivals Celtic in September.
The controversial 34-year-old won promotion from the Championship with Sean Dyche’s Burnley side last season.
But his former Manchester City teammate Mills has questioned his decision-making and provided a strong verdict on what will happen to his career at Ibrox.
“I did question his ambition when he went to Rangers,” Mills told Sky Sports News, as quoted by HITC. “I thought obviously he was one of the best players in the Championship last season. I thought he would have another go at the Premier League.
“I did question his ambition to go to Rangers and play in a two team-league where it’s going to be maybe a bit more comfortable.
“But of course it looks already as though that career in Scotland is going to come to a very abrupt end.”
Barton has made eight appearances in all competitions for Mark Warburton’s side, supplying one assist, following his free transfer in the summer.
But an alleged incident involving teammate Andy Halliday, after the Gers were beaten 5-1 at Celtic Park against their rivals, has led to the former England man being suspended by the club.
Warburton’s side take on their Glasgow rivals on Sunday afternoon in the semi-final of the League Cup at Hampden Park.
In other Rangers team news, Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has identified these two players ahead of the Old Firm clash.
