Danny Mills has tipped Rangers to win the race for in-demand Ryan Kent due to his “hero worship” of Steven Gerrard.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-England international believes Kent will be eager to work under Gerrard for another season even if the Scottish giants don’t agree a permanent deal.
The Ibrox manager has made no secret of his desire to re-sign Kent following his impressive 2018-19 loan while, as revealed by Football Insider, Leeds United have also made a move to land the player on loan from Liverpool.
“I think Steven Gerrard has more sway than Marcelo Bielsa in this situation,” Mills told Football Insider. “Kent did well at Rangers last season, Gerrard rates him highly and knows him from Liverpool. There is likely to be a bit of hero worship of Gerrard from the player.
“He had a decent time in Scotland last season and he is a top young player. Rangers want to sign him permanently or on loan, and I think they have a very good chance.
“He would be a fabulous addition to the Rangers squad. He has had a decent time in Scotland already, and it looks like another loan deal.”
Gerrard spoke warmly of Kent’s performances and attitude last season, which ended with him being named the Scottish young player of the year.
He is contracted to Liverpool until the summer of 2022 but is unlikely to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s senior side next season.
In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have been hit by a major blow after English outfit have bid accepted following multiple Ibrox offers.
