Darren Bent has claimed Kalvin Phillips can “easily” follow Leeds United teammate Jack Clarke to Tottenham this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs striker hailed Phillips as “exceptional” and believes he is good enough to nail down a regular starting role in their midfield.
The 23-year-old was transformed into a midfield anchorman by Marcelo Bielsa last season and responded with the best season of his career.
Multiple Premier League clubs are keen on signing him this summer, with Aston Villa already having an approach knocked back and Wolves and Bournemouth also keen.
“I’d like to see Kalvin Phillips move on, he’s earned that Premier League status,” Bent told Football Insider. “He can go to Spurs, quite easily. That holding role, getting about the pitch and making tackles and that, I can see him at Tottenham easily.
“They’re crying out for that player so I can see him going there and he might not start straight away, might have to bide his time, but I can guarantee you once he gets in there he won’t come out.”
Like Clarke, Phillips is a product of the prolific Leeds academy that has produced a number of Premier League players in recent years, most notably Lewis Cook at Bournemouth, Charlie Taylor at Burnley and Sam Byram at West Ham.
Clarke, 18, signed for Tottenham on Tuesday but was immediately sent back to Leeds on a season-long loan.
In the latest Leeds United news, it can be REVEALED that a £6million-valued Elland Road ace has been given just a few days to find a new club.
