Darwin Nunez is likely to have now have played his last game for Liverpool as he closes in on a move away from Anfield in the summer transfer window.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the decision has already been made to let the 25-year-old leave.

Nunez was left on the bench while Arne Slot's side were chasing a winning goal against Leicester, and has not played a part in either of their last two games.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in March that Nunez is first in line to leave Liverpool this summer and could push for an immediate move away.

The forward has been unhappy since Liverpool rejected a big offer from Al-Hilal in January, while Slot has been less than impressed by his performances.

As a result, the boss is expected to overlook the Uruguay international in favour of his other options in the closing stages of the season.

Darwin Nunez will leave Liverpool after Arne Slot green light

Brown told Football Insider on 15 April that Liverpool will accept offers for Nunez, as well as Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in a potential attacking overhaul.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted that Nunez has no future at Liverpool as part of Slot's plans.

"It's highly probable that Nunez has played his last game there," he told Football Insider.

"The decision has been made, he is not good enough for Liverpool.

"We've spoken about the front three before, Salah is a given but the other two positions are not, and the manager wants to add more stability to his team.

"They're going to win the Premier League, but they'll be looking to improve.

"They haven't faced much pressure, Arsenal fell away and Man City have fallen off a cliff, that won't be the same next season.

"So they're going to need to strengthen those attacking options.

"Nunez will go, and he'll be replaced by somebody who is more to the manager's liking.

"In the meantime, he'll give some of his other options a chance to impress."

Ollie Watkins update emerges as Arne Slot eyes swoop

With Nunez primed to leave Anfield when the transfer window opens, plans are already being put in place to find an adequate replacement and improvement.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 18 April that Liverpool are closely monitoring Ollie Watkins as an alternative to Newcastle star Alexander Isak.

Watkins, 29, has dropped to the bench for all but one of Villa’s five fixtures in April, leading to speculation that he could be on his way out of Villa Park.

Arsenal saw a bid rejected for Watkins in January and Liverpool could now rival Mikel Arteta’s side for the striker in the off-season.
