David de Gea is set to walk away from Man United following the expiry of his contract on Friday (30 June), sources have told Football Insider.

It is now looking increasingly likely the long-serving 32-year-old will not return to Old Trafford in the 2023-24 campaign.

De Gea officially became a free agent on Friday despite agreeing a new Man United contract around the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

Football Insider revealed on Friday (30 June) that but United pulled out of the deal and offered reduced terms at the eleventh hour as they plan to add a new first-choice goalkeeper.

It was also revealed that the decision to renegotiate the deal comes down to reservations held by manager Erik ten Hag.

It is believed the Dutchman doesn’t trust De Gea after a string of high-profile mistakes in the 2023-24 campaign.

Football Insider has been told by a source close to the former Spain international that the goalkeeper has little desire to stay at Old Trafford as a backup option to a new arrival.

De Gea had been at Man United since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011 – and racked up 545 appearances for the club.

He won the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and two League Cups while at Old Trafford.

Last season, the 32-year-old won the Premier League’s Golden Glove award after keeping 17 clean sheets in 38 games, conceding 43 goals in the process.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (1 July) that Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana is at the “top of the list” to replace De Gea between the sticks at Old Trafford.

It is believed the Italian giants will hold out for a bid in excess of £50million.
