Arsenal legend David Seaman says there are a whole host of signings that need to be made by Arsene Wenger if they are to be ready for the new season.
The Gunners’ lone signing this summer has been Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, while rival clubs have all made a number of investments.
Talking to talkSPORT, via goal.com, Seaman commented that the spine of the team has the greatest need for rebuilding.
“We still need a dominant centre-half. We’ll see what Granit Xhaka’s like in midfield, but ideally we need someone like Patrick Vieira. And a striker as well,” he said.
“He needs to buy someone to give the club a lift and give the fans a lift. Ideally a striker would be great, but either a centre-half or midfielder would do for me.
“The thing is that a lot of the players who played at Euro 2016 are not going to be ready for the start of the season, and that’s going to mean Arsenal are going to have a weakened team.”
They were close to signing Jamie Vardy at the start of the transfer window and held a medical with the England striker, but he eventually decided to sign a new contract with Premier League champions Leicester.
Fellow Leicester stars N’Golo Kante and Riyad Mahrez were also on their radar and while Kante has signed for Chelsea, Arsenal are favourites to sign Mahrez after he rejected a new contract.
Arsenal begin their Premier League campaign with a home match against Liverpool on August 14.
In other Arsenal news, their £37.5million target has exchanged a war of words with his current club.
