Ben Davies makes bold Tottenham claim, these two players will be crucial

By Will Butcher

Ben Davies believes Tottenham can catch league leaders Chelsea, and that playmakers Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen will be the difference.

It’s a bold claim as Mauricio Pochettino’s side remain seven points behind their London rivals at the top of the Premier League, with only eight games to go until the end of the season.

However, Wales international Davies told the Express that Spurs can still reel in the deficit between themselves and Antonio Conte’s side.

The 23-year-old stated that Eriksen and Alli would prove instrumental as they are able to produce “something out of nothing”.

“There’s always a chance of catching Chelsea,” Davies said.

“Three points is always our aim in every game we play. The manager tells us the same – to pick up three points and move on to the next game.

“When you’ve got people like Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen in your team, players that can make something out of nothing, it pays off. If Chelsea do slip up then we have to be on their tails to catch them.”

Davies starred against his former side Swansea on Wednesday night, as Spurs came from 1-0 down with only two minutes remaining at the Liberty Stadium to win 3-1.

Goals from in-form duo Alli, Eriksen as well as South Korea international Son Heung-Min saw Spurs remain seven points behind Chelsea, who beat Man City at Stamford Bridge 2-1.

Hope has been restored in north London after Chelsea suffered a surprise home loss to Crystal Palace, which saw Spurs reduce the gap by three points by beating Burnley on the weekend.

Now, Pochettino’s side will be desperate to see Chelsea slip up again as they travel to Bournemouth in Saturday’s evening kick-off, while Spurs host Watford.

In other Tottenham news, this proven Premier League ace is reportedly on Spurs’ transfer radar.
