Noel Whelan has tipped Leeds United to bring in “three to four quality signings” during the summer transfer window.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, believes the recent investment from the San Francisco 49ers will help cover costs at Elland Road and allow the Whites to be busy in the transfer market.
As revealed by Football Insider, Leeds have set their sights on more blockbuster signings this summer despite splashing out nearly £100million last summer and a wage bill which north of the £100million mark.
Leeds brought in the likes of international stars Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Rodrigo, as well as the likes of Raphinha, Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood, last summer.
Whelan believes the increased stake from the 49ers will help the Whites cover the losses caused by a lack of revenue at Elland Road and open the door for several ambitious signings at the end of the season.
Whelan told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “Look, I mean we’ve had the investments from the 49ers which is going to cover a lot of losses over this Covid period.
“We knew it was never going to go onto the field, it was all about sustaining and keeping the club in a very healthy position financially so that is fantastic news.
We don’t know what’s going to happen when it comes to the end of the season, we’re going to have that balloon payment from the Premier League for staying there.
“I think there’ll be three to four quality signings, I really do. I think we missed out.
“We were going to give a big signing to (Michael) Cuisance, Rodrigo De Paul was going to cost a lot of money as well so I don’t think we’re afraid of going into the summer market and spending quite a bit of money to improve a team and taking them forward .
“I don’t expect two to come in; I expect three to four quality players to come in and add to the three or four quality players that we bought this season, who have been hindered by injuries.”
