Aston Villa goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is set to join Atalanta, according to a report.
The Birmingham Mail claim that a long-term loan deal has been agreed for the 21-year-old with Italian club Atalanta.
It is understood that the Villa shot stopper will sign until the end of the season and is expected to also spend the 2017/18 campaign with the Serie A side.
The report details that Gollini is in Italy today to complete his move and there is no option for Atalanta to make the deal permanent.
Gollini has made 20 appearances for the Midlands giants since his summer arrival and has been unable to cement his position as the number one goalkeeper.
He completed a £4million move from Italian club Hellas Verona, but now looks set to return to his homeland with Atalanta.
The young goalkeeper has fallen down the pecking order under manager Steve Bruce, with Mark Bunn and new loan signing Sam Johnston ahead of him.
Football Insider verdict:
Sending Gollini away from Villa Park for a long-term loan could turn out to be a great piece of business. The 21-year-old has looked unsettled during his time with the Midlands club and showed that he still has much to improve on, with several sloppy mistakes creeping into his game. He showed signs of his qualities and has the potential to be the club’s number one in the future, but is not yet ready to deal with the high pressure of the Championship. Gollini will now be able to continue his development in his homeland Italy and that should help him improve hugely. Villa currently have enough options in their squad to allow him to leave, but Bruce will certainly been tracking his progress.
