Aston Villa are on the verge of making Ahmed Elmohamady their third signing of the summer, according to a report.

Sky Sports claims on their live transfer blog on Tuesday [6:36pm] that the West Midlands club will complete the deal within 48 hours.

Elmohamady, 29, is no doubt a favourite of Villa boss Steve Bruce, who has signed him in his previous management spells with both Sunderland and Hull.

The right-back looks set to join John Terry and Sam Johnstone in signing for the Villans this summer, who are expected to earn promotion back to the Premier League next season.

Elmohamady was part of the Hull team that secured promotions from the Championship in 2012/13 and 2015/16, but has also been in the side that endured two relegations.

Bruce looks to be eyeing up a player who he knows well and has a good understanding of getting teams out of the second-tier.

The 77-times Egypt international was a key part of the Tigers squad last season, making 37 appearances across all competitions.

He can primarily play as a right-back and add competition to Alan Hutton in the Villa first-team, but can also be deployed on the wing.

Football Insider Verdict

Elmohamady is a player that has a great understanding of the Championship, but he isn't exactly a player that Aston Villa are in desperate need of. He probably won't force Hutton out of Bruce's plans after the Scot's impressive displays last term, and he isn't at his best when playing on the right wing. However what he lacks in quality he makes up for in experience. With 77 caps to his name and two African Cup of Nations titles, Elmohamady has become a natural winner. His knowledge of securing promotion could have a big boost to the Aston Villa squad and having already worked with Bruce, it's good when a player and manager get a long so well - even if he isn't going to play so much.
