Dean Ashton has expressed his anger towards West Ham ace Dimitri Payet for his refusal to play for the club.

Former Hammers striker Ashton, who was forced to retire at the age of 26 because of an ankle injury, slammed the disgusting behaviour of the Frenchman.

Slaven Bilic revealed last week that the 29-year-old did not want to play for the club as he is seeking a move away from the London Stadium.

Payet last featured for his side during a 5-0 loss at home to Manchester City in the FA Cup where he came on as a second-half substitute.

He was not named in the 18-man squad that took on former manager Sam Allardyce and his Crystal Palace team on Saturday with the Irons recording a 3-0 win.

But the actions of Payet towards the club did not go down well with fan favourite Ashton who had this to say about the former Marseille man.

“There are lots of players that behind the scenes are trying to manufacture a move, but there is a way to do it,” Ashton told TalkSport.

“I can’t play anymore and to see the way Payet is acting, I can’t tell you how angry it makes me.  He can play on and players like me who suffer injuries can’t carry on.

“West Ham love him, they absolutely adore him, they wouldn’t dream to think he would go and do this. He is so many kids’ favourite player. It is disgusting what he is doing in refusing to play.”

Former England international Ashton played for the likes of West Ham, Norwich and Crewe during his short career.

He scored 19 goals in 56 games in all competitions for the Hammers and also represented his country on one occasion.

At this moment in time, Bilic’s side are concentrating on picking up another three points when they travel to Middlesbrough this Saturday.

In other West Ham news, a Sky Sports pundit has stated how the Hammers should deal with Dimitri Payet.
