Declan Rice backed to agree Man United deal after source's reveal - expert

Frank McAvennie has claimed Declan Rice would fit in well at Man United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker urged Rice to step up from now until the end of the season and ensure the Hammers stay in the Premier League.

On 27 February, sources told this site that United are still hopeful of signing the 24-year-old despite his desire to remain in London if he quits the Irons.

Erik ten Hag’s side still believe they can convince the England international of a move to Old Trafford in the summer even though Arsenal are leading the race for his signature.

Rice’s current deal expires in 2024 and he has already rejected several attempts to tie him down to a new deal, including an eight-year offer worth £83million that would make him the highest paid player in the club’s history.

When asked if Rice would be a good fit at United, McAvennie told Football Insider:Him and Casemiro and [Bruno] Fernandes, that would be a decent midfield.

Declan played well at the weekend, that is the first time he has for a while. Declan has not been doing it but at the weekend he was different class.

Whether that is the catalyst that made West Ham play well I do not know. But he has got to do that in every game from now until the end of the season if he is going.

He has got to show that he is the captain and get them out of this position that they are in.

West Ham are currently two points clear of the drop zone after a 4-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday (25 February).

Rice was on the scoresheet for the second time this season in a much needed victory for David Moyes’ side.

In other news, according to Kieran Maguire, the Glazers could now stay at Man United after £45bn takeover twist.
