Fortuna Sittard centre-back Perr Schuurs has secured a trial at Liverpool, according to a report.
Dutch news outlet Voetbal International claims that the wonderkid will spend “several days” training with the Merseysiders and is expected to take part in a number of friendly games.
However it is understood that there is no concrete agreement between the player and Liverpool yet and there is a lot of interest in the 17-year-old from Premier League rivals Tottenham, who have sent scouts to watch him in the Netherlands’ second tier of football.
RB Leipzig and PSV are also reported to be interested in Shuurs, who will make his own mind up on his future destination with two years left on his current contract.
Standing over 6’ 2”, the defensive colossus was ever-present in Fortuna Sittard’s campaign, making 29 appearances in all competitions and even chipping in with four goals and two assists.
The second half of the season saw Schuurs enjoy his best football and he put in a brilliant display as he scored and set up a goal in the 5-2 win over Jong Ajax, who are Ajax’s famous youth side who also play in the Jupiler League.
Football Insider Verdict
Both Liverpool and Tottenham will be two very attractive options to Schuurs due to the reputation they have for developing young players. Five or six years ago it could have been a non-brainer and that Anfield was the more attractive destination. However Spurs’ recent rise is something that could also influence the teenager, but don’t rule out RB Leipzing who have also undergone a phenomenal change this season and are also known for putting their faith in youth. Liverpool appear to have struck first though and a trial period with them could be a big deciding factor for the youngster.
