Everton fans have been quick to react on Twitter to reports that owner Farhad Moshiri has put Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone at the top of his shortlist to replace Ronald Koeman.
Since Koeman was sacked after a 5-2 home defeat by Arsenal on the 22nd of October, U23 coach David Unsworth has taken over as caretaker manager while the club’s board search for a permanent successor.
Unsworth has overseen a poor run of form as Everton dropped out of the EFL Cup and the Europa League during three losses in his first three games, but a morale-boosting 3-2 comeback win over Watford has increased his chances of keeping the job.
However, it has now been revealed that Moshiri is aiming somewhat higher than academy coach Unsworth, as the Everton owner looks to secure a massive coup and bring one of Europe’s most sought-after coaches to Goodison Park.
Argentine Simeone has been at the helm of Atletico since 2011, and oversaw one of the biggest shocks in recent European football history as he led Atleti to the La Liga title in 2013/14, beating out perennial winners Real Madrid and Barcelona.
He has also guided Atletico to two Champions League finals, although they lost both times to rivals Real.
Everton fans have been quick to react to the news of Moshiri’s lofty ambitions, mostly in self-deprecating fashion.

That’s like me saying i want Mila Kunis as my GF, nice idea but never going to happen .

Delusions of grandure. Why not be realistic. All that going for targets out of reach means is you waste time. See our search for a striker.

While most responses were dismissive of the Toffees’ chances of luring Simeone to Goodison Park, some fans seemed hopeful:
Nowt wrong with trying, just don't dawdle on it! Make offer, if he says no then move on to other targets.
