Denzel Hall: Preston North End and Cardiff City in hot pursuit of Rotherham star

Preston North End and Cardiff City are interested in signing Rotherham defender Denzel Hall this summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Hall has been one of Rotherham’s shining lights despite their relegation to League Two, which has put clubs on alert over his potential availability.

The 24-year-old is scheduled for a cull-up to represent the Jamaica national team in the Unity Cup where they will face India as well as one of Nigeria or Zimbabwe.

Rotherham do not expect to keep Hall beyond the summer transfer window due to their relegation and given the level of interest in his signature.

The right-back, who can also play as a centre-back is under contract with The Millers until 2028 but they are prepared to accept offers when the window opens.

Which clubs are in the race to sign Denzel Hall?

Plans for the summer transfer window are already being put in place in the Welsh capital, with defensive reinforcements on their radar as Football Insider warned Cardiff could lose Dylan Lawlor.

Hall has emerged as one of a number of targets on their shortlist, but given his likely availability, they are now considering stepping up their interest.

Preston, meanwhile, are aiming to improve their squad following a 14th-placed finish in the Championship last time out as they aim to progress up the league.

The number of ageing players in the squad has emerged as a concern, while they are now moving towards permanent signings rather than replying on loanees.

Should the Championship club choose to step up their interest, they may have an advantage over their League One rivals, but it will be a close-fought race.

What other positions will be on Preston’s list of targets?

Amid a new focus on permanent transfers, Preston are compiling a list of targets in key positions, while they are also at risk of losing players.

They have benefited strongly from loan deals this season, with Alfie Devine among their leading performers, and he has now attracted interest from elsewhere.

Football Insider revealed last month that Celtic are keeping tabs on Devine, when Martin O’Neill was spotted keeping tabs on the midfielder at their 1-1 draw against QPR.

He will go back to Tottenham for the start of next season following his loan spell, and they will have a say on any future move should they wish to move him on.

However, it will force Preston into the transfer market to land a replacement in midfield, with that role become another of their key targets.
