Leeds United are closing in on a ‘sensational’ appointment as their new manager, according to a report.
Gianluca Di Marzio, a transfer expert who works with Sky Sports, claimed that Marcelo Bielsa has been in talks and that Leeds are confident they will get a positive answer from the experienced manager in the next 48 hours.
He says that other managers have been contacted by Leeds in the past few days – including Filippo Inzaghi, Claudio Ranieri, Steve Bruce and Matias Almeyda – but that Andrea Radrizzani has personally identified Bielsa as the man to take Leeds forward.
Football Insider verdict:
Let’s not mince words here – Bielsa might not be as in-demand now as he was in the peak of his powers, but look at the list of teams that he’s managed… Argentina, Chile, Marseilles, Lazio, Athletic Bilbao. He was considered the best coach in the world by Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino – and you’d be hard pressed to find two bigger names to endorse you. It’s still hard to believe that he might be the next Leeds manager but that’s looking more and more likely now. Di Marzio is right, it would be an absolutely sensational appointment that would prove that Radrizzani is committed to taking Leeds back to the top-flight. If he doesn’t manage it, it won’t be for lack of trying. This is going to be an anxious and what could be a very exciting weekend for Leeds fans. They’ll be praying that Bielsa fancies one last, very tough, gig before he decides to call it a day.
