Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has said that striker Gabby Agbonlahor will be given another chance at the club – and the fans on Twitter aren’t happy.
Agbonlahor scored only one goal last season as he watched his boyhood club drop into the second-tier of English football for the first time in nearly 30 years.
The Midlands club produced their worst season in the club’s 141-year history, registering 17 points and three wins in a miserable campaign.
Agbonlahor, the club’s longest serving player, was put on a fitness regime at the back-end of last season as he gave up the Villa captaincy.
The striker was criticised by fans after the incident, and many feel that Agbonlahor should actually have gone many years ago. Fans also believe that previous board members made a huge mistake in offering the 29-year-old a long-term contract.
One Villa supporter was willing to set up a fund to pay off his contract, whereas others asked manager Roberto Di Matteo to re-think his decision as the Villa fans made their voices heard.
Here is the reaction from the Villa fans on Twitter.
They will sign out all d Aston Villa players. I wonder who will remain for Di Matteo. Probably only Agbonlahor & Lescott

@Dr_TonyXia please ask RDM to reconsider his comments on keeping Gabby Agbonlahor. Is vital he be paid off & released from contract.
