Rangers have confirmed that goalkeeper Kieran Wright has joined Albion Rovers on loan until the end of the season.
The Light Blues announced on their official website on Wednesday afternoon that Wright, 17, will join the Scottish League One side for the remainder of the campaign.
Wright has never made a senior appearance for the Glasgow side and does have experience of being on a temporary deal away from Ibrox when he was sent to Lowland League side Gala Fairydean last season.
Although Wright has only moved nearby to Albion Rovers, Rangers may be worrying over the future of first-team goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.
The Scottish Sun has previously reported that Nottingham Forest are interested in the Gers’ No 1 and could plot a January deal for the ex-Swindon shot-stopper.
Football Insider verdict
Wright has a promising future ahead of him and at the age of 17, it’s great for him to be getting loan experience with a team like Albion Rovers. He will not be based too far away from Ibrox in case anything happens that will see him needed to be recalled quickly and the fact that he is so young and wanted by a League One side says a lot. Normally goalkeepers won’t get much first-team football until they are at least in their 20s, so for Wright to have this chance is something that could really help him progress as a player. It’s too soon to tell whether he will be in the Rangers first-team in the future, but everyone will have their fingers crossed for the young shot-stopper.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have held talks over a potential move for this South American defender but Celtic and Aberdeen are also interested.
