Done deal: Midfielder signs after Leeds agree transfer

By Alex Stevens

Luke Murphy has joined Burton on loan from Leeds for the rest of the season, it was announced on Friday.

Championship outfit Burton have snapped up the central midfielder, 27, after he dropped down the pecking order at Elland Road following the arrival of Garry Monk last summer.

Burton revealed on their official website and Twitter account that Murphy will spend the remainder of the campaign at the Pirelli Stadium.

The arrival of Murphy comes just 24 hours after Nigel Clough’s team announced that they had signed Tottenham winger Will Miller on loan for the rest of the season.

The Leeds man will be eligible to make his Burton debut in Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie against Watford at Vicarage Road and will wear the squad number 30.

Murphy has made just one appearance for Leeds this season after being a regular under former boss Steve Evans.

He was restricted to a 58-minute run-out in the League Cup and has spent the remainder of the campaign frozen out from the first-team set-up and training with the development squad.

Murphy was signed by Leeds from Crewe in the summer of 2013 and signed a new contract last summer that runs until 2019.

Burton are 21st in the Championship table, 16 places behind high flying Leeds, who consolidated their place in fifth with a 3-0 win against Rotherham on Monday.
