Everton emerging star Callum Connolly has joined Wigan on loan, it was announced on Saturday.

The versatile teenager, who can play in midfield or defence, has linked up with the Championship club for the remainder of the campaign.

Everton announced's Connolly's temporary exit on their official Twitter account on Saturday afternoon.

Connolly, 19, signed for relegation-threatened Wigan in time to make his debut for their visit to Burton on Saturday and had a memorable game as he scored both goals in his team's 2-0 victory.

The teenager, who also had a loan spell at Barnsley in League One last season, has already made an impression on the Everton senior team.

He made his first-team debut as a substitute against Southampton in April last year but has played for the Under-23s side this season.

The England Under-20 international who can play anywhere across the back or further forward in midfield, has made 12 appearances in Premier League 2.

Everton were not in Premier League action on Saturday as they play on Sunday instead, when Manchester City are the visitors to Goodison Park.
