'Done himself no favours' - Exclusive: Bent suggests Tottenham player yet to convince Mourinho
Darren Bent suggested that Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks is yet to convince Jose Mourinho that he should be a regular starter.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the ex-Spurs striker acknowledged that Mourinho may like Winks for his technical ability but he’s not the usual type of midfielder he goes for.
The 23-year-old midfielder has featured in five of the seven league games Mourinho has been in charge of this season, completing 90 minutes on only one occasion.
Winks picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 2-1 win over Brighton on Boxing Day.
Bent explained that getting needlessly booked and ending up suspended for the clash with Norwich City had done the midfielder no favours.
When asked if Winks has failed to convince Mourinho so far as he’s been in and out of the first-team and if getting a needless yellow card didn’t help him, Bent told Football Insider: “Yeah potentially.

“I don’t think Mourinho knows his best midfield in some respects.
“It’s difficult, Harry Winks is a technician, he can get on the ball, he can pass it, so I think Mourinho likes him technically but you know what Mourinho has always been like over the years, he likes them monsters, those giants.
“He likes to look at his team and have a big powerful side, so it’s difficult but Harry Winks done himself no favours with that needless booking.”
Winks has played a total of 20 times across all competitions this season with him often being deployed as a midfield enforcer.
The England international has been at Spurs for the entirety of his professional career and is contracted to stay with the North London club until 2024.
