Henrik Pedersen has done ‘amazing’ job amid Sheffield Wednesday turmoil: 'He's the right choice'

Henrik Pedersen deserves the opportunity to manage Sheffield Wednesday in League One, according to Keith Wyness.

The former Everton chief executive, speaking to Football Insider, "would be surprised" if Pedersen was not the Owls boss next season.

Pedersen took on his first managerial position in the Championship this season in extraordinary circumstances as Sheffield Wednesday fell into administration in October and continue to try and finalise a takeover deal off the pitch.

The Yorkshire club have been deducted a total of 18 points this season, and they will face a 15-point deduction in League One next campaign if a takeover, led by David Storch, is completed.

Sheffield Wednesday have only won one Championship game all season, with their relegation to League One having been confirmed since a derby defeat to Sheffield United in February.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs - has praised the job Pedersen has done in tough circumstances.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks that the 48-year-old has "handled himself with dignity" this season.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I would be surprised if they did anything other than stick with Pedersen. 

"They've got to keep that thread of continuity. He's done an amazing job to keep the players motivated. We know they've been losing games, but they've been putting up some good performances and they've been unlucky in a few situations. 

"Given the pressure they're under, and the whole movement around the club, he's done a superb job as manager. He's been very serious, with a balanced head on his shoulders and he's spoken well. He deserves that chance to be given some resources and move on.

"Henrik Pedersen is the right choice. The fans would get behind that, because he's handled himself with dignity, and he has proven that he deserves that chance.” 

Sheffield Wednesday face summer setback as Rangers eye up standout player

Pedersen could be hit with a blow at Sheffield Wednesday in the summer transfer window if he remains in charge.

Rangers have been linked with a move for goalkeeper Pierce Charles, and the Glasgow club are managed by former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl.
