Birmingham City are lining up a move for Rob Edwards amid doubts over Chris Davies as their manager, sources have told Football Insider.

This comes amid a period of increased pressure on Davies with supporters turning against the Blues boss after the heavy 6-1 defeat to Brentford on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old is now fighting to save his job and sources say he will have to win three of his next five games if he is to remain at St Andrew’s.

Birmingham have a tough run of fixtures on the horizon, with the club set to travel to Wrexham on Friday before hosting Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Blues are keeping close tabs on former Wolves manager Edwards as they look to fulfil their ambitions to get back to the Premier League.

The former Luton Town and Middlesbrough boss was surprisingly sacked at Molineux this summer after overseeing the Old Gold club’s relegation to the Championship.

Is Chris Davies’ time up at Birmingham City?

Birmingham’s start to the new campaign has no doubt been woeful.

The club have not won either of their opening two Championship matches, and were embarrassed by Brentford at St Andrew’s on Tuesday.

For a side that is looking to win promotion to the Premier League this season, there is not a lot to suggest Davies is the man to achieve this.

The manager was perhaps fortunate not to be sacked before the start of the 2026-27 campaign, with the Blues nowhere near the playoffs last season.

Now, with fans turning their back on Davies, his time at Birmingham could soon be up.

Could Rob Edwards guide Birmingham to promotion?

If Davies is dismissed, the biggest task for Birmingham will be finding the right man.

Given his credentials in the Championship, Edwards could be an excellent appointment for the Blues.

The manager oversaw a shock Premier League promotion for Luton Town back in 2023, and had Middlesbrough in the top two in the Championship last season before he left to go to Wolves in November.

While his stint at the Old Gold club was poor, there is no doubt that Edwards is a capable manager in the Championship and can get teams in the hunt for promotion.

However, it remains to be seen whether Edwards is considered for the post if Davies is sacked at Birmingham City.
