Charlie McNeill could be playing for his future when Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom clash in a Championship dead rubber this weekend.

The 22-year-old's current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2027, but given the Owls' financial problems and their relegation to League One, a mass exodus is expected at the club.

Wednesday have already been relegated from the Championship, while the Baggies have confirmed their status ahead of next season, so there is very little to play for on Saturday, 2 May.

Instead, focus will be shifting to the summer transfer window, with multiple of Wednesday's stars expected to depart, some on free transfers, much like Barry Bannan and Josh Windass.

Charlie McNeill has something to prove in Sheffield Wednesday vs West Brom

McNeill, formerly of Manchester United and Manchester City's academies, has caught the eye in England's second tier this season, notching four goals and one assist in 39 appearances.

His most recent goal came in the Steel City derby back in February, and that was just one of the interesting talking points, sandwiched by red cards to Kalvin Phillips and Gabriel Otegbayo.

The attacker also boasts a brace against Preston North End, and while the game ended in another defeat for the Owls, he is likely to take great pride in his performances amid all the turmoil.

Multiple Championship clubs are reportedly interested in the youngster's signature, with McNeill far too good for League One, so he has one final chance to show a potential future club what he can do.

What happened in the last meeting between these two sides?

The reverse fixture was one of Wednesday's 12 draws of the Championship campaign, with the two sides deadlocked in a goalless draw at the Hawthorns back in November.

Sadly for McNeill, he was only afforded 10 minutes of playing time at the end of the game, managing just five touches before the final whistle was blown [FotMob]. It wasn't enough time to shine.

He will be hoping to rectify that this time around, searching for his first goal contribution in 12 matches, as the Owls hope to secure just their second win of the entire league season.

McNeill is far more likely to be focused on his own future, though, and a clash against the Baggies is the perfect chance to prove himself to others in the division.
