Hull City are expecting to receive offers for Cathal McCarthy as clubs in England and Scotland line up moves, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old made eight senior appearances for the Tigers last year and played a part in a successful campaign as they earned promotion to the Premier League.

Multiple EFL clubs, as well as a number of Scottish Premiership outfits, are believed to be eyeing loan moves as Hull brace to receive offers.

The Ireland Under-21 international is capable of playing both as a centre-back and at the base of the midfield, and Hull are now keen for him to gain regular senior experience.

McCarthy joined Hull for an undisclosed fee from UCD AFC in Ireland in February 2025, and having impressed in their youth ranks, is now ready to make a step up.

The centre-back remains very highly rated at the MKM Stadium, and with one year remaining on his contract, hopes are high for his development away on loan.

Why are clubs interested in signing Cathal McCarthy?

McCarthy remains very highlt rated behind the scenes at Hull, and the club are inviting interest from clubs in a bid to get him some more regular senior minutes.

The centre-back made six Championship appearances last season, as well as two in the FA Cup, and caught the eye of multiple EFL clubs who could offer him an opportunity.

A move up to Scotland may also suit, where he would be able to continue his development at a higher level, which Hull are keen for him to do.

McCarthy was signed from the Dublin-based outfit in 2025 with a long-term view for his development to ultimately make his mark on the first team, and those plans are still in place.

A loan move could prove beneficial for all parties, with clubs looking for a new centre-back to benefit while Hull can see their player tested at a higher level.

Why are Hull willing to let McCarthy go on loan?

Hull are encouraging clubs to make a move for McCarthy as he continues his development, having been unable to nail down a more regular role in their staring XI.

Following their promotion to the Premier League, the centre-back will find minutes hard to come by, and plans are being made to ensure he contnues to play regularly.

Meanwhile, Hull are set for a busy transfer window, and McCarthy is not the only player who could be allowed to leave the club this summer.

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness warned Football Insider that Hull could be forced into a fire sale as they aim to avoid any punishment for breaching financial rules.

Having already sold goalkeeper Ivor Pandur to Rangers, more star names could follow, including Charlie Hughes, who has attracted interest from Premier League rivals.
