Lincoln City have agreed a deal to sign Ipswich Town star Chiedozie Ogbene on loan, sources have told Football Insider.

The Republic of Ireland winger will undergo a medical at Sincil Bank today, with the club pushing to confirm his arrival before tonight's 11pm transfer deadline.

Ogbene, 29, has fallen down the pecking order at Portman Road and has not been involved in the matchday squad for either of the Tractor Boys' Premier League games so far.

As a result, he is set to be allowed to leave on deadline day, with a loan move to Championship outfit Lincoln seen as the ideal move after he spent last season at Sheffield United.

Lincoln feel they have secured a coup if they can get the deal over the line, as they have beaten a number of Championship rivals to the winger's signature at this late stage.

Ogbene still has two years left on his contract at Ipswich, which is set to run until 2028, but will be allowed to leave on loan as he aims to play regular first-team football.

Why are Lincoln City signing Chiedozie Ogbene?

Ogbene has attracted interest from a number of Championship clubs this summer, notably including the likes of Derby County and Stoke City, but Lincoln have now moved quickest.

The Imps have reached an agreement with Ipswich, and the winger is travelling to the club to undergo a medical before putting the finishing touches on his deal.

Lincoln have been determined to strengthen their attacking options following their promotion to the Championship, and believe Ogbene would be an important addition.

They have also been keen to utilise the loan market, with five players already signed on a short-term basis, including the likes of Ethan Wheatley and Mason Melia.

Ogbene has plenty of experience in the second tier, with 74 Championship appearances to his name, after he spent last season on loan at Sheffield United.

His availability placed a number of second-tier clubs on high alert, but Lincoln now believe they will get a deal over the line before the deadline.

Are Ipswich Town expecting a busy deadline day?

After agreeing to send Ogbene out on loan, Ipswich are now bracing for a busy transfer deadline day, with work ongoing to secure both outgoing and incoming deals.

Football Insider exclusively revaeled on 31 August that Gary O'Neil's side have made a bid to sign Burnley striker Zian Flemming.

Flemming is widely expected to leave Burnley in the coming days as he is keen to return to a top European league, with a Premier League offer likely to prove tempting.

Ligue 1 outfit Lille have been leading the race for his signature, but the Tractor Boys are now prepared to go head-to-head in the race to agree a deal.

Burnley had been reluctant to let Flemming leave this summer, and are in a strong position with his contract set to run until 2029, but may now find it tough to hang on.
