Stoke City have agreed to sign Ipswich Town striker George Hirst with a medical booked for Wednesday, sources have told Football Insider.

The Potters have been working to bolster their frontline with more firepower, and have now agreed a permanent deal for Hirst for a package worth £10million.

Ipswich have been looking to offload the 27-year-old after adding to their own attacking options, and Stoke have won the race for his services.

Hirst is set to travel to the Midlands for his medical on Wednesday, with only the final details of the deal left to complete.

The Scotland international struck 11 goals in the Championship last term, and also chipped in with three assists.

He has been at Portman Road for the last three years, but is now destined to move on in the coming days.

Stoke aim to fix goalscoring problem with George Hirst

Stoke will be one of many sides who have their eyes on a push for the play-offs in the Championship this term, but their campaign began with a defeat last weekend.

Mark Robins' side were beaten 2-1 at home by Swansea City, as they failed to kick-start their season in the manner they would have hoped.

They have been working to add a new striker to their group for several months now, and have finally got their man in Hirst.

Stoke were one of the lowest scoring teams in the second tier last time out, with their tally of 51 league strikers only better than six other teams in the division.

Their move for Hirst is an attempt to fix that issue in 2026-27, with the frontman a proven goalscorer at Championship level.

Only Jack Clarke and Jaden Philogene outscored the ex-Sheffield Wednesday man for Ipswich last season, and Stoke will be hoping that he can carry that form over to his new club.

Sources: Stoke City work on signing Ipswich Town’s George Hirst on loan-to-buy

Stoke convince Ipswich into U-turn over Hirst

Football Insider revealed at the end of July that Stoke were pursuing a deal for Hirst on an initial loan, with the option to buy included.

Their interest has since progressed in recent weeks, and they have been able to convince Ipswich to alter their stance.

The Premier League side are now prepared to let the striker go on a permanent basis, and Stoke have jumped at that opportunity.

Hirst's move will now go through in the coming days, and he will become the Potters' seventh summer signing.
