West Bromwich Albion are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea gem Jimmy-Jay Morgansources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder spent the 2025-26 campaign on loan to Peterborough United, where he impressed.

Sources say a deal is close to being finalised for Morgan to join Albion with discussions advancing following a recent breakthrough in negotiations.

Morgan netted 14 goals in 36 appearances for the Posh as they managed to avoid relegation to League Two.

West Brom manager James Morrison is looking to add more firepower to his squad this summer, and will be hopeful that Morgan can replicate his League One form in the Championship.

The Baggies finished 21st in the Championship during the 2025-26 season, and only avoided relegation by four points.

The Black Country club were also one of the lowest scores in the second tier, netting just 48 times in 46 matches.

Who is Jimmy-Jay Morgan?

Morgan joined Chelsea’s academy when he was eight years old before transferring to Southampton years later.

In the Saints’ academy, he proved to be one of the club’s brightest youngsters, which helped him earn a move back to the Blues in 2023.

The attacking midfielder, who can also play as a striker, was soon shipped out on loan to Gillingham and Peterborough, with Morgan heavily impressing at the latter club, which has no doubt helped to attract the interest of West Brom.

On top of this, the attacker has also been a regular in England’s youth teams, and has been capped at Under-16, Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 level.

How good was Morgan at Peterborough this season?

According to Fotmob on 12 June, Morgan had some fantastic stats in League One this season.

The attacker was averaging, 0.46 goals, a 0.35 xG, 2.05 shots, 0.11 assists, 1.14 chances created, a 61.7 per cent dribble success rate and 3.16 touches in the opposition box per 90 minutes in the third tier.

Many of these stats are no doubt eye-catching, especially because Morgan is just 20 years old.

Therefore, West Brom will be hoping that he can develop further and potentially become a star in the Championship in the years to come.

However, it remains to be seen how Morgan will perform in the second-tier if the Baggies are able to get the signing over the line.
