Eight senior stars face a race against time to be fit for Liverpool’s Premier League showdown against Tottenham on Sunday, according to Football London.
The Reach site name Spurs trio Eric Dier, Harry Winks and Serge Aurier and Liverpool quintet Trent Alexander-Arnold, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as major doubts for the Anfield clash.
Football London report all eight players were either injured heading into the international break or sustained injuries while on duty for their countries.
Football Insider verdict:
Given that five of the players are from Liverpool, they appear to be the most deeply affected, although only Alexander-Arnold had been a regular starter before the international break. Of the Spurs stars, Winks has been integral to the team’s playing style in recent months and has come on leaps and bounds as he gets more exposure to first-team football. Dier has had a stop-start season, but his pedigree and physical prowess make him a key man for such occasions. Certainly, managers Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp will be sweating as their players gradually return to their respective training centres after 10 days away with their countries. They will want clean bills of health ahead of a marquee encounter that is likely to be pivotal to the Merseysiders’ title hopes, as well as Spurs’ bid to secure a top-four Premier League finish for the fourth consecutive campaign.
