Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris is being line up for a move to European giants Real Madrid if Spurs fail to pick up any silverware this season, according to a report.
The Mirror claim on their website that the French international, who is captain for both his club and country, is looking to secure a trophy to satisfy his ambitions and Real will look to take advantage if the Lilywhites fail in their pursuit of glory.
It is said that Lloris would cost in the region of £25million, although Los Blancos’ interest will come as a surprise considering how closely they have been linked with Manchester United’s David De Gea over recent seasons.
Spurs are currently mathematically able to pick up one of three trophies this season; the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup, but seem unlikely to be able to make up the 15 point gap to table toppers Manchester City.
Football Insider verdict
Hugo Lloris is a crucial member of the Tottenham squad, and he is almost like Mauricio Pochettino’s right-hand man in the dressing room. His leadership qualities are outstanding, while his ability between the sticks is just as impressive. The opportunity to work under fellow countryman Zinedine Zidane may be too much of a draw for the 30-year-old to resist, while their ambitions are equally, if not higher than Spurs’. Still, Mauricio Pochettino’s men have every chance to pick up a trophy this season, which might just whet the goalkeeper’s appetite to push on for more success with his current club.
