Fenerbahce are prepared to launch a move for Arsenal ace Mesut Ozil, according to a report.

The Daily Mirror claim that the Turkish club want to make a stellar signing in the summer and believe they may be able to agree a deal for the 28-year-old.

It is understood that Fenerbahce hope Ozil’s Turkish heritage, and the fact he has been dating former Miss Turkey Amine Gulse, will help them secure his move.

The report details that the Germany international is set to leave the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season, despite being offer a new £280,000-a-week to stay with the north London club.

It is believed that Arsenal would at least look to recoup the £42million they spent on Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013.

Ozil has made a strong contribution this season for the Gunners, despite several fans growing frustrated with his work ethic and inconsistency.

The attacking midfielder has made 31 appearances this campaign across all competitions, scoring nine goals and supplying nine assists.

He looks set to end his four-year stay with the Gunners and his future has not been helped by the uncertainty surrounding manager Arsene Wenger.

Football Insider verdict:

Arsenal look set to lose one of their most talented players in the summer and that will be a big blow to them. The 28-year-old often divides opinion due to his work-rate, but there is no doubting he is one of the club’s best players. He will be leaving behind a huge void in the side and the Gunners will need to splash the cash on a creative playmaker to replace him. Arsenal are now in danger of missing out on the top four and replacing Ozil will become even harder without the attraction of Champions League football. He is certainly too good to be moving to the Turkish league and should still be playing in one of Europe’s leading division, but looks set to make the move in the summer.
