Everton star Richarlison needs to learn English if he is to become a true Premier League sensation.
That is according to ex-Aston Villa star Gabby Agbonlahor, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Carlo Ancelotti revealed the language barrier is making it difficult to communicate with the Brazilian forward on the training ground.
Prior to his side’s 2-0 defeat to Fulham on Sunday, he told the Liverpool Echo: To talk with Richarlison is not easy because his English is not good, my Portuguese is so bad, so the communication is not so easy but I try to speak with him every day.”
The 23-year-old has been in England since signing for Watford from Fluminense in August 2017.
After nearly four years in the country, Agbonlahor says it’s time for the talented Toffee to master the language.
He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I’ve had times when I’ve been at a club and players have come and they can’t speak English.
“But they learn bit by bit and after a season they can speak the English that they need.
“So it is something he needs to work on. He could have online lessons and focus on learning the language.
“If he’s going to kick on and if he plans to stay in England for the long-term then he needs to learn.
“Ancelotti knows how important it is. He has had a career all over the world and he’s probably learned the language of every club he’s been to.”
Richarlison has played 23 times for Everton across all competitions this season, chipping in with eight goals and three assists.
He netted twice as Everton got the better of Tottenham in a thrilling 5-4 FA Cup tie last Wednesday.
