Everton attacker Gerard Deulofeu is topping the January target list for Deportivo La Coruna, according to a report.
Spanish news outlet El Pais has claimed that the La Liga side have made the Toffees 22-year-old their first target to replace the departing Ryan Babel.
Deulofeu has barely featured for Everton under Ronald Koeman this season and it is believed that Deportivo are looking to relaunch his career after once being a promising player in the Barcelona youth ranks.
The fleet-footed attacker only rejoined the Toffees in the summer of 2015 for a fee of £4.2million after impressing on loan in the 2013-14 campaign.
However, he has failed to rediscover his early promise in the Premier League and he hasn’t returned a goal or an assist in 12 encounters this season.
Manager Koeman already made the big money signing of Yannick Bolasie in the summer, while he has been heavily linked with a number of other wide players in January.
This could leave Deulofeu further down the club’s pecking order, meaning that a move away from Goodison Park could be the best for his career.
Football Insider verdict:
It is clear that for whatever reason it just isn’t clicking this time at Everton for Deulofeu. However, he is still of the age that he could vastly improve and therefore the Toffees should only allow him to leave on a temporary basis. La Liga is a competitive league and would present familiar ground for Deulofeu, but it may be better for Everton if they let him out on loan to an English club. There will be sure to be a number of top flight clubs in England interested in the former Spain Under-21 international and it would help him readjust and then grow in the Premier League, leaving him as a better player when he returns to Everton.
