Frank Lampard will be furious if Everton sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin to "balance the books" this summer, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, warned the board they also face the fury of the fans should they cash in on the 25-year-old.

As reported by the Sun (26 March), Everton are ready to let Calvert-Lewin go this summer as they look to slash their wage bill and help deal with the enormous financial losses.

As detailed in the club's accounts published on Tuesday (29 March), Everton posted losses totalling £120.9million during the financial year ending 2021.

Hutton insisted there would be uproar if Calvert-Lewin was to be the one sold.

Hutton told Football Insider's Russell Edge: "That's not going to go down well.

"Of course, he's had his injury problems this season but we're talking about a guy who scores in the Premier League. There's potential there, to be on the international season as well, he's still very young.

"He's going to get better and Frank Lampard will not want to lose one of his top assets. No way. The fans would be up in arms if that happened.

"We also understand the side of it where Everton, the way they've spent money over the last five, six years hasn't been good enough. They maybe need to balance the books, but it's a difficult one for them.

"Obviously, if this season didn't go well and they went down, then these guys are all going to leave.

"But if they were to stay up, you'd like to Frank Lampard's looking to build his own team and his own squad. He'll definitely want Calvert-Lewin to be the spearhead of that."

Calvert-Lewin has played just 11 times this season after suffering a toe fracture.
