Everton can wrap up one of the summer’s best transfers if they can get their hands on Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure on a free from Manchester City.
The Sky Blues legend is out of contract at the Etihad in the next few weeks and has been confirmed to be leaving the club, but with his family said to be settled in the north-west, the Toffees, according to the Manchester Evening News, are considered to be one of the player’s options.
With Everton’s attacking midfield star Gylfi Sigurdsson now out of action for the rest of the season, when the Icelandic does return to action, the arrival of Toure would prove to be invaluable in the centre of the park.
At 34-years-old, he has just a couple of years left in the tank and while he has been cast out in the shadows under Pep Guardiola’s tenure, he will undoubtedly be raring to go at what would be his last opportunity in a football shirt to show what he can do.
Not only would he be a giant in terms of physical presence and his ability to put a foot in, but his forays going forward could provide the Blues with a vital ingredient missing from their play – working perfectly in tandem with Sigurdsson, or whoever he might be played alongside.
All too often, the Blues have been accused of by-passing the midfield zone which has been their downfall and the source for much criticism from supporters of the club.
Between Sigurdsson and the Ivory Coast international, the Blues would have a steal on their hands and one that would help solve their attacking issues significantly.
