Everton could spend '£100m' in January after Benitez transfer confession - Kenny
Everton could spend “£100million” in the January transfer window – but manager Rafael Benitez may still chase “bargain” signings.
So says ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Toffees’ mid-season transfer prospects.
As per The Times on 6 November, Benitez admitted: “I think we will have some money to spend [in January] but I don’t think it will be too much.”
Demarai Gray was Everton’s only fee-paying arrival last summer, while Andros Townsend, Salomon Rondon and Asmir Begovic joined for free.
Everton lost a staggering £139.9m over the last financial year and financial fair play constraints have hindered their recruitment ambitions.
But the departure of Colombian playmaker James Rodriguez to Qatari outfit Al-Rayyan will have eased the situation somewhat.

Football Insider revealed in September revealed that the 30-year-old earned £250,000 per week during his ill-fated 12 months at Goodison.
Kenny speculated that Benitez could be gearing up to splash the cash on Mersyside.
“It is tough to get players in January at the best of times,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“But having said that, I don’t know what ‘some money but not much’ means these days, that could be £100m in this day and age.
“We have seen them get some bargains over the summer and he has got the best out of them so far.
“So they might try and go in that direction again in January and get some players in on the cheap. Or, they might spend £100m.”
