Everton are looking to take advantage of a potential mass exodus at West Brom and have set their sights on defender Craig Dawson, according to a report.
The Sun claims that Dawson, Ben Foster, Jay Rodriguez and Jonny Evans are all likely to quit The Hawthorns in the summer as the Baggies look increasingly likely to be relegated from the Premier League.
It is understood that Everton are eyeing a summer swoop for in-demand Dawson, 27, who is also wanted by Burnley and Crystal Palace.
Dawson has been a mainstay for West Brom in the past few seasons with the powerhouse making 23 appearances in all competitions this term.
He is known for his powerful and no-nonsense style of play and can play at centre-back and right-back, but unusually he is a very clean striker of the ball having began his career as a forward.
The former Rochdale player is prolific in the air too, scoring a number of goals from set-pieces at West Brom over the years.
Football Insider verdict
Sam Allardyce may not be manager of Everton next season so it makes little sense to start drawing up transfer plans when they do not know who will be in charge. Steve Walsh should be held responsible for the amount of money wasted on players in the past year so there’s no way he should be trusted to continue bolstering the squad. Dawson would be a good signing for Everton though – however not at right-back. The 27-year-old is more naturally a centre-back and does a very solid job there. He was turned into a right-back by Tony Pulis but his lack of crossing ability makes him easy to cope with when he attacks. As a centre-back though he is calm on the ball, good in the air and is a threat when going forward at set-pieces.
