Everton eyeing late summer swoop for captain of Euro giants - report
By Danny Wright
Everton are keeping close tabs on Porto defender Ivan Marcano, according to a report.
The Daily Mail claims that the Toffees have “expressed interest” in Marcano, 30, with a view to making a late summer swoop for the European giants’ captain with just two days to go before the transfer window slams shut.
Former Spain Under-21 international Marcano is a mainstay of the Porto side, featuring in all but three of their fixtures in all competitions last season.
He has already played every minute of the Portuguese clubs’ opening four matches of the new season, scoring one goal and supplying one assist in the process.
The Daily Mail adds that Everton are close to sealing the signing of Nikola Vlasic in an £8million deal from their previous Europa League opponents Hadjuk Split.

It is understood that Vlasic, 19, could be shipped out on loan as soon as he signs for the Merseysiders, similarly to how Henry Onyekuru joined them earlier this summer before he was sent to play for Anderlecht on a season-long deal.
Football Insider Verdict
Everton could maybe do with another centre-back before the deadline is reached on Thursday night. Phil Jagielka, Michael Keane and Ashley Williams are their only options there at the moment with Ramiro Funes Mori ruled out with a long-term injury. Either way, Marcano would be an improvement on Mori and could also step in for Williams, who was in terrible form in the Europa League fixtures with Hadjuk. Jagielka is also approaching the end of his career so it would be wise to bolster the back line with one more sturdy player. Marcano has a lot of experience and his leadership skills mean that he would be an invaluable addition to the Toffees squad.
